High winds fueled a vegetation fire that suddenly blew up into a massive blaze that torched dozens of homes in the northern area of Auburn, forcing residents to rush to safety as flames skipped from neighborhood to neighborhood. At least 50 homes are known to have been destroyed. The fire is 50 percent contained.
